productronica 2011 - 34% growth

productronica, international trade fair for innovative electronics production, closed its doors after four days having posted a substantial rise in the number of visitors. 38,500 visitors from more than 80 countries represent an increase of around 34 per cent compared with the previous show. This proves that the industry has greatly recovered in the last two years and is back to the level in 2007. The proportion of international visitors rose from 39 to 48 per cent.

Norbert Bargmann, Deputy CEO of the Board of Management of Messe München: “productronica therefore once again confirmed its leading position as the world’s leading trade fair for the global electronics production industry. Following the weak event in 2009 caused by the economic crisis, we held intensive discussions with the industry. The cooperation with our commercial and industrial partners and representatives is now bearing fruit: the highlight themes, the special show ,Battery manufacturing and power electronics’ and the PCB Community Area were magnets for both new visitor groups and exhibitor target groups.”

In addition to Germany, the countries with the highest number of visitors included Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. Compared with previous events, there was a pronounced increase in the number of visitors from Israel, Poland, Hungary and the Russian Federation. The representative visitor survey conducted by TNS Infratest revealed an overall satisfaction level of 96 per cent on the scale ranging from “excellent” to “good”. 75 per cent of respondents said they would be attending productronica 2013.

Thomas Metz, Manager Operations at Yahama Motor IM Europe, described the international importance of productronica: “Yamaha was represented at a trade fair for the first time in Europe. We were positively surprised to meet so many international trade visitors at productronica. As far as our company is concerned, productronica is now the most important trade fair to launch the global premium brand Yamaha in Europe. We will definitely take part again in 2013.“

You can find statements by other participants on our website.

1,234 exhibitors from 39 countries presented their innovative products and solutions on a net exhibition area of 41,016 square metres (gross exhibition area: 77,000 square metres). This represents an increase of just under 15 per cent in the number of exhibitors compared with productronica 2009 (1,106 exhibitors from 36 countries).

The increase in the amount of net exhibition space was around 15 per cent, of which approximately 32 per cent of the total area was occupied by international companies. In addition to large numbers of exhibitors from abroad, there were joint stands again this year at productronica, for example from Austria, France, Hungary, Japan and Romania.

Approximately 235,000 visitors streamed into the New Munich Trade Fair Centre over the six days of the fair – that´s around 10% more than at the last event in 2009. Never before in the 50-year history of BAU has the event seen such a strong rise. In terms of international participation, this top event for the sector entered a new dimension: 56,400 visitors to BAU 2011 came from outside Germany. This boosted the proportion of foreign visitors to 24%, up from 18% in 2009. There was also a further increase in the proportion of planners and architects attending the fair – to 22% this year. Expressed in absolute numbers, that´s 52,800 trade visitors from this segment alone!

The visitors to BAU 2011 travelled to Munich from over 150 different countries of origin. Right from the very first day, the halls were packed – all the exhibitors can confirm this. “We were virtually overrun,” was the comment of many exhibitors. From almost all the countries there was a significant increase in the number of visitors. After Germany, the countries from which most trade visitors came were Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, France and Great Britain. Particularly noticeable, too, was the strong rise in numbers from countries outside Europe – for example, India, Japan, the US, Canada and the United Arab Emirates. In some cases here the numbers doubled.

  • Increase in exhibitor numbers and exhibition space

bauma China 2010, the 5th International Trade Fair for Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines, Construction Vehicles and Equipment, has again broken all records with regard to exhibition space, exhibitor numbers and visitor numbers. Once more, bauma China has further consolidated its position as the leading trade show for the Chinese and Asian construction industry.

More than 150,000 visitors from 165 countries attended this year’s bauma China (2008: 112,674 visitors from 124 countries). This represents an increase of 33 per cent compared to the last edition. Covering 230,000 square meters of exhibition space, bauma China 2010 was ten per cent bigger in area than in 2008, when the show took up 210,000 square meters. IFAT ENTSORGA 2010

  • Strong rise in international scope
  • Top ratings from exhibitors and visitors

Following its merger with ENTSORGA, IFAT has celebrated a successful premiere and established itself firmly as the world’s leading trade fair for environmental technology. This is seen on the one hand in strong interest from visitors from abroad, their proportion rising from 33 percent of the total at the last IFAT to 40 percent this year. And on the other hand in a broadening of the international spread among the exhibitors, with 37 percent of the total coming from outside Germany this year, as compared to 32 percent last time.

Over the five days of IFAT ENTSORGA, around 110,000 trade visitors from over 185 countries (IFAT 2008: 119,476 from 170 countries) came to the event. After Germany, the top ten countries of origin for visitors were, in order: Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, the Russian Federation, the Netherlands and France. Despite a fall of almost ten percent in visitor numbers, IFAT ENTSORGA still received top ratings in a survey of exhibitors and visitors: "What might at first sight seem contradictory, is explained by a shift in the visitor structure: fewer lower-ranking employees and more decision-makers from the higher echelons in the companies. This, too, is evidence that IFAT ENTSORGA is a dynamic trade fair undergoing change," said Eugen Egetenmeir, Managing Director of Messe München GmbH.

bauma 2010 marks a turnaround for the industry

  • Visitor quality good despite fewer visitors from overseas as a result of the temporary closure of European airspace
  • Record exhibition space and record number of exhibitors
  • Over 415,000 visitors from more than 200 countries
bauma 2010 has marked a turnaround in the international construction machinery industry, ushering in the hoped-for change in sentiment. And this was despite the ban on air travel which impacted on the first few days of the fair.

"The mood in the industry shows that in Europe the bottom of the cycle is now behind us. Confidence has returned. Of course at the start of the fair the exhibitors felt the lack of many customers from Asia and America – but in the second half of bauma, this improved considerably. Messe München´s crisis management in the days impacted by volcanic ash was outstanding." This is how Ralf Wezel, Secretary-General of CECE, the Committee for European Construction Equipment, summed up this year´s bauma. In doing so, he confirmed the expectations of the sector as outlined by Dr Christof Kemmann, Chairman of the VDMA Construction Equipment and Building Materials Machinery Industry Association, at the Main Press Conference for bauma 2010 on the first day of the fair.

Although the ban on air travel in Europe prevented visitors and in the end around 50 exhibitors from overseas from coming to the fair, the mood at the venue among the approximately 3,150 registered exhibitors from 53 countries was good by the close of the fair. Already by the mid-way point of the fair a number of exhibitors were reporting more sales than they had expected. "The good old times are coming back: the figures for sales taken at the fair far exceed our expectations. We reckon we will be able to match the volume we took at the record bauma in 2007.
Michikazu Okada, Vice-President of Hitachi Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane Co., Ltd., Japan: " We had a lot of new business opportunities some of which already resulted in unexpected conclusions of sale."
