City center -
the main tourist attractions are here: Marienplatz, the central square; the townhall, or "Rathaus"; the cathedral and its famous twin towers which are not actually the same height. And, of course, the world famous "Hofbräuhaus" beer hall. Schwabing -
North side of the city. This contains the city’s most vibrant nightlife. The main street, Leopoldstrasse, is where you will find most of the action on a Friday or Saturday night.
Haidhausen - to the East. Haidhausen is very residential but still has some of the trendiest nightlife.
Neuhausen - A truly residential area, West of the city.
Isarvorstadt - located in the South-West section of the city, this area is also bustling with nightlife and is best known for its gay culture.
English Gardens -
this is the largest city park in Europe. The greenery stretches all the way from the Northern perimeter to the city center.
Let’s not forget Munich's beautiful surrounding countryside. Less than an hour drive away from the city you will find the Bavarian Alps and the Austrian border. Its close proximity makes Munich an ideal base for mountain sports such as hiking, climbing, and skiing or snowboarding during the winter. |
